Accommodation Establishments in Namibia are Regulated Businesses., and the
Namibia Tourism Board
(NTB) is responsible for ensuring that services rendered and facilities provided
to tourists comply with the prescribed standards. In addition to other
responsibilities, the NTB is tasked with registering and grading accommodation
establishments and other tour related business. These mandates are vital to
ensure a high quality of standards and elimination of illegitimate business.
The Namibia Tourism
Board has categorized accommodation as follows: Hotels, Hotel Pensions,
Guest Houses, Bed & Breakfast, Lodges, Tented Lodges, Permanent Tented Camps,
Campsites, Caravan and Camping, Backpacker Hostels, Guest Farms,
Self Catering.
Each category has a minimum standard that must be complied with, and
accommodation establishments are subject to Inspection by the
Namibia Tourism Board
in order to ensure that the required standards, as stipulated by the
Tourism Act are complied with. It is with this knowledge that you can expect a
relatively good or even high standard of accommodation for your stay in Namibia.
A general guide-line should be, that you can expect good value for your money
relative to the particular category of accommodation that you choose.
